Playing cards often feature a glossy finish, so you can seek out shinier paper if you choose, although it is really a matter of choice.

Another option that will protect your cards against dirty fingers and folding is to laminate them. An easy way to do so is to purchase clear shelf liner such as Con-Tact Paper.

Print both sides of your cards and cut them apart. Spread out a sheet of shelf liner and remove the protective backing.

Place the cards onto the sticky side of the paper with sufficient space between each card. Cover with another sheet of shelf liner so that the adhesive side of each sheet is touching. Smooth the paper down, removing any bubbles, and cut out the laminated cards.

Insert text, images and other designs that you want on the card faces into each cell of the table of the first page.

If your printer does not offer double-sided printing, simply print the first page, replace the paper into the printer upside down and print the backs of the cards.

Another option is to leave the backs blank. Laminate the card as suggested in the previous section, but use decorative Con-Tact Paper for the backs of the cards.

You can make more pages of the cards if you wish by clicking inside of the last card on the second page and pressing the Tab key. Of course, you can change the images on the front or backs of the cards as well.

Be sure to use the duplex printing option for double-sided cards. You can use the traditional playing card template for Microsoft Publisher to make a deck of 52 cards with your custom design on the backs.

This template features a standard set of playing cards with kings, queens, aces and so on in each suit. As there are nine cards on each page, there are six pages of cards.

The seventh page of the template is a blank card template on which you can design the backs of your cards. Print the first six pages when you are done, and then replace those pages into your printer upside down.

Print the seventh page six times to print the design backs onto all six pages of cards. Finally, you can create custom playing cards in Publisher to use for bridal shower favors or wedding party gifts.

This template is easy to use, as you can customize the card once and it will apply to all of the cards on the page. The back of the cards features a picture placeholder. The opposite sides of the cards are blank, so you can create custom playing cards or perhaps use your custom design as the back of the previous template.
